Kamewa started its marine propulsion journey under a different name. Initially, Kamewa was the brand name of Karlstads Mekaniska Werkstad (KMW)s controllable pitch propellers.
KMW was founded in 1860, but changed its name to Kamewa later down the line. It began its life in the city of Karlstad in Sweden, but now operates all around the world. However, a section of the business still lives on in Sweden. This section of the business is called Kongsberg Maritime Sweden AB, and rather than being based where it was founded, now finds its headquarters in Kristinehamn.
Kamewa produces waterjets, the A-series, a mix flow pump, the Kamewa Advanced Propulsion Systems (APS), and the SII and P62 pumps. On top of that, Kamewa still produces the Kamewa and Kamewa Ulstein propellers.
Kamewa are most well-known for their waterjets. They have been producing these unique marine propulsion devices for over forty years now, and are the forefront of the current view that waterjets are the de facto standard for large and small high-speed vessels. Though waterjet technology is relatively new, Kamewa is a main part of why this technology is a leading innovation for high-speed vessels.
With a focus on reliability, innovation, efficiency and safety, Kamewa are sure to be around for the long-haul.
